A starting point, thoughtfully calculated. Planning estimates only. Watts use 85 lm/W unless adjusted; lux and foot-candles are estimated averages, not measured light levels. Actual results depend on fixtures, placement, ceiling height and room finishes. Confirm your lighting plan and applicable requirements with a qualified professional.

How we calculate

All room types use the same 300–500 lumens per m² planning allowance. Room selection changes the planning tip. Lumens = area × allowance. Watts = lumens ÷ fixture efficacy, initially 85 lm/W. Estimated average lux = lumens × utilization × maintenance ÷ area. Foot-candles = lux ÷ 10.7639104167. Lux and fc are illustrative averages, exclude daylight, and do not predict uniformity. Fixture counts round each end of the lumen range up to a whole fixture. These figures are not measured photometric values or a placement plan.
